Teaching Family Science Reference & Resource Nexus

Welcome to the Nexus!

This virtual gathering place hosted by the Family Science Association provides space for Family Science scholars to share the best of our teaching resources.

As an organization, we believe that the best classroom resources and practices result from sharing, discussion, and community. This repository of peer-reviewed resources with Creative Commons licensing encourages our members to download, remix and refine, and re-contribute materials.

TFS Resource Nexus is a benefit for members of the Family Science Association.
You will be prompted to log in to access Nexus resources.

In the Nexus, you will find peer-reviewed materials for classroom use, as well as proceedings and resources from past Teaching Family Science conferences. You will be able to search by keyword, author, or title.

Nexus materials use Creative Commons BY-NC Licensing, meaning that you are welcome to use and adapt them for non-commercial purposes as long as you give attribution to the original author. For more information about attribution practices, see section 1.1 of Best Practices for Attribution).

Many open-access journals and repositories are moving to Creative Commons (CC) licensing because it preserves author attributions, allowing you to get more credit for your work.

If you have any questions about CC Licensing, please contact the website team at webmaster@familyscienceassociation.org

We welcome submissions to the Resource Nexus! All submissions will undergo a blind peer review by our team of Family Science Association members with extensive classroom teaching experience – we call them our Nexus Nerds. Once reviewed and accepted, your submission will be published to the Resource Nexus, and you can add it to your vita as a Peer-Reviewed Web Publication.

Family Science resources we currently accept:

  • Class syllabus
  • Reading or resource lists
  • Classroom Assignments
  • Lecture Notes/Powerpoint
  • Classroom Activities
  • Rubrics
  • OER Book
  • OER Chapter
  • Annotated list of videos, podcasts, or other materials organized by topic
  • Canvas module
  • Canvas course
  • Adapted or “Remixed” version of Nexus resources (e.g. you download a Nexus classroom activity and modify it for your own use, then resubmit it to the Nexus so we can see the modifications – these submissions must contain original author attributions)
  • Have another idea for a resource? Email webmaster@familyscienceassociation.org and let’s talk about it!

Submit a “clean” document with all traces of authorship removed using our handy Nexus Submission Google Form so that we can submit your work to our review committee for a blind peer review. We will keep track of authorship information using the form.

Once material has been accepted, we will add your authorship information, a permanent web link to your document in the Reference and Resource Nexus, and Creative Commons BY-NC 4.0 licensing information. Once we have published your work in the Nexus, you are welcome to add it to your vita as a Peer-Reviewed Web Publication. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process – make sure to add webmaster@familyscienceassociation.org to your address book so you don’t miss our emails.
